Having an advocate largely depends on current circumstances and if you the eligibility criteria is met for the type of advocacy being considered.

 

Stoke-on-Trent:

IMHA - Independent Mental Health Advocacy -  To be eligible for this service you have to be sectioned under the Mental Health Act and residing in Stoke-on-Trent.

​

IMCA - Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy -  For specific decisions about Changes of Accommodation, Serious Medical Treatment, or Safeguarding (with protective measures), where the individual lacks mental capacity in relation to the decision (2 stage capacity assessment) and there is no-one available to consult with (family/friend).

 

DoLS and RPR -  For individuals deprived of their liberty under the Mental Capacity Act, for Stoke-on-Trent residents.

Care Act Advocacy - Have care and support needs,  have substantial difficulty in relation to understanding the assessment process,  and undergoing a social care assessment, and no-one appropriate to speak up for the person. Social worker has to make this referral from Stoke City Council.

​

Parental Advocacy - This is for parents who are undergoing assessments and open to Stoke-on-Trent City Councils children's department, where the parent has substantial difficulty in understanding the process and there is no-one appropriate to support them through, Child In Need, Child Protection and PLO and Court proceedings.

​

Independent NHS Complaints Advocacy - This service is for Stoke-on-Trent residents who wish to make a complaint about any part of the NHS,  this complaint has to be within 12 months of the incident occurring.

 

BAME - Black and Ethnic Minorities Advocacy - This is for Stoke-on-Trent residents from the BAME community who need support with health and social care related issues,  and need help to speak up.

REACH Group Advocacy - Reach is a group advocacy project for Stoke-on-Trent residents who have a learning disability.

Staffordshire:
